The story...

It is now 2005. Larry Wayne Jones lives in beautiful Garden Valley, Idaho, surrounded by mountains that reach three thousand feet above the valley floor. Eighteen memorable years have gone by since the beginning of the legend. He still reflects on how it happened...

It was Memorial Day, 1987. Over breakfast, Larry and his wife Debby decided to take a fifty-mile drive from their home in Boise up to a little community in the mountains called Garden Valley. They had discussed looking into purchasing a cabin there that they could use for a weekend retreat. As an avid hunter and outdoorsman Larry had been fond of the area since childhood. Memories of deer hunting and fishing with his dad and brothers often took him daydreaming. His dream came true! They soon had a cabin fit for a King at the base of Castle mountain ... where else?

The Jones's primary residence was in Boise where Larry worked in financial services. Even though it required a long drive to and from work they eventually sold their home in Boise and moved to Garden Valley full time. Coming home to beautiful surroundings and tranquility always made the drive worth while for Larry.

Now, before we go forward with the story lets go back once again to Memorial Day, 1987. But this time let's look at things from a different perspective. Lets consider something that's going on out in the woods not far from the Jones' soon-to-be home. Something that virtually gives birth to this incredible story...

It's a warm beautiful spring day. As always, the air is fragrant and abuzz with new life after a long snowy winter. Flowers are blooming. Nests are filled with hatchling birds. Dens brim with infant critters: foxes, bears, coyotes and squirrels. New-born deer fawns and elk calves are walking around on shaky legs. On the surface it looks and feels like a typical spring day in Garden Valley, Idaho. But it's not...

At first glance he looks like any other calf elk, but a closer look reveals something special about this one! What is it? Is it that he carries himself a little different than the others? All bull elk are majestic, but this one does seem to have irresistable grace. He should. After all, he will be a king wearing a royal crown (a royal bull elk has seven points on each antler)! But that's not all that will define his royalty! Something else will too ... he will also have a royal name. One that will make him the most famous elk in the entire world. Meet the king ... meet Elvis the elk...
